George Gigi

George Gigi

Born and raised by his grandparents in Auno Village in Papua New Guinea, George Gigi is an indigenous artist and singer.

His love for music began when his grandparents (his grandfather being the Chief of the village) introduced him to traditional singing and dancing as a child.

A gifted musician, George can play the pan pipes, bamboo wind flute, conch shell and the suduk which is similar to the Australian didgeridoo. Not only can he play these instruments, he also knows their history and how they were introduced to Papua New Guinea.

George also spends much of his time creating handcrafted jewellery using locally sourced material and designing fabrics. Taught by his beloved grandfather, George continues to develop his skills through study and practice. The hand-carved, delicate and intricate instruments are unique and stunning.

Inspired by his culture and his land, George hopes to showcase to people around the world Papua New Guinean art and music. He teaches the youth the art of the traditional music and making the instruments.
